BETHLEHEM GARDEN CLUB PROGRAMS

ABCs OF BOTANICAL TERMS &
BGC MEMBER ROUNDTABLE

Ever wonder just what that plant tag meant? How the plant got its formal name? Marty Teumim will lead us through the maze of Latin terms commonly found on tags and help us decipher them.

In the cold of winter, we'll look again at our garden pictures taken last summer. At our BGC Member Roundtable, we will share our favorite and least favorite things in the garden - plants we are delighted with, and those we wish we'd never bought or accepted as a gift. (Opinions may vary: one woman's Monkshood is another woman's poison.)

BEAUTIFUL EASY FLOWER GARDENS

Larry Sombke, gardening talk show host on WAMC Radio 90.3 fm every other Thursday at 2:00, will tell us how to achieve "beautiful easy flower gardens" - the name of his book. Come prepared to ask questions of Larry; you won't be left on hold at the end of the program! Copies of his books will also be available for sale - get a head start on planning for next summer's gardens. (His website is www.beautifuleasygardens.com)

SHADE GARDENING

We enjoyed Joanne Lenden's mature shaded yard on last year's garden tour. Now we have a chance to hear advice on making our own areas attractive from this president of the Fort Orange Garden Club. Most of us deal with shade in our gardens - how can we make the most of it?

Copies of Joanne's books will be available for sale.

10AM-1PM, March 8, 2006, Bethlehem Public Library

ART BLOSSOMS: INTERPRETING ART IN FLOWERS

Susan Detjens, a prominent regional artist and flower show expert, will use flowers to interpret art - making floral arrangements that reflect traditional, abstract, and Asian works. The finished compositions will be raffled off to members at the conclusion of the demonstration - come prepared to take chances!

1-3PM, April 12, 2006, Bethlehem Public Library

BGC FLOWER SHOW

For this flower show, BGC members will select a piece of art, then create their own floral interpretation of it. The art may be something from a private home or a print selected from a museum collection. After learning techniques for interpreting art in the April, we will use them for our own enjoyment!

Note: Museum prints will be available at March and April meetings.
