Garden Design:

The gardens have evolved slowly out of necessity. First as visual barriers and cutting gardens. Then, through acquisition of more plant material, the need to expand occurred. Always a work in progress.

Landscaping or use of special effects:

The sculptures were done by Connie's father, Bill Strong (1918-2002), who lived 4 doors north of this property so the Hudson River has always been home to these sculptures.

Plants:
The perennial bed left of the driveway starts with a mix of day lilies, Asiatic and oriental lilies, and Stella de Oro lilies. Following are peonies, which were handed down from Connie's mother. A small shade garden and path are further down.

Coral peonies and tree peony are alongside the Dutch barn style garage. Behind the garage is the sculpture titled "Barge Annie" standing among the ornamental grasses.

The 75' stone wall in the lower back yard, constructed from stone left on the property, is lined with bearded iris and daylilies.

There is a shade garden on the southern side of the home and many clematis vines on the latticework around the base of the house.
